Karting can be very safe if the youth has taken some basic riding course at a Karting School.   One such school is the International Motorsports Academy (IMA) located at Sebring, FL.   IMA is a co-sponsor of these Youth Safety Seminars and more information about their Karting School can be found at the site below.

In 2001, about 33,000 youth were treated in Emergency Rooms for injury from ATV's or QUADS.

WORKSHOPS AVAILABLE are listed Below

Workshop #1   Cruising or Bruising” ?

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:  General audience of concerned parents, relatives, neighbors

and young riders or drivers

OVERVIEW:  Motorized stuff is fun to drive or ride, but painful and costly accidents can occur even at 10 mph.   This seminar is for parents, relatives and users of so-called “back yard” or Off  Road vehicles   This seminar focuses on low cost ways to improve youth safety.  The youth will have more fun while riding or driving.  Being more safe will minimize parental concerns.

Workshop #2   "More Cruising and Less Bruising"

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:  People who attended the first Seminar and want more tips, insights and information for the safety of young riders or drivers of “back yard” or Off Road vehicles.

Some people are situated in counties that have race tracks and/or off-road trails for karts, motorcycles, ATVs, cars or trucks.    Hence, a fair number of participants and motorsports enthusiast reside in these counties.   The next two seminars are for this audience involving the advanced youthful driver.

Workshop #3  Winning or Banging & Spilling

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:  Parents, relatives, friends and participants of any motorsports event where the driver or rider is required to have  safety helmets.   This usually means Karting, dirt bikes, and ATVs or Quads.   Maximum Speeds tend to be moderate (30 – 40 mph).   Since these are young participants with no driver or rider training., there tends to be “banging” into things and “spilling” of the rider or driver.

Workshop  #4  Winning or Crashing

WHO SHOULD ATTEND.    Parents, relatives, friends and participants of any motorsports event where the driver or rider is required to have some training and some minimal safety equipment.    This usually means cars, midgets, sprint karts, and motorcycle type of motorsports.   Since these are higher power vehicles,  speeds are high (80-100 mph) and accidents tend to be more “crashes” than the “banging and spilling” of the younger and lower speed events.
